I have really bad short-sightedness. My glasses look like the bottom of the milk bottles. I wear contact lenses.
I have always wanted to find out more about Lasik surgery, which is incredibly popular here in Mexicali. Most every young person with vision problems we have met has had Lasik Surgery,
One of my young lady friends has always be asking me about when I was going to get my eyes done.
The first thing on my mind has always been how safe is Lasik Surgery? Well, I had to educate myself, and bought this wonderful book, The Complete Book of Laser Eye Surgery Surgery.
I had read about the UK eye surgeon, Dr. David Gartry, who performed the first laser eye surgery for short-sightedness in the UK in 1989 and is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Hospital.
Dr. Gartry himself has had Lasik surgery.
Dr. Gartry had Lasik for his own short sightedness, However, he admits he thought long and hard before having it done. He also agrees that the operation would not suit people in all professions.
”You cannot promise a patient they will have perfect vision, and there will be a small percentage of patients who will have night vision problems afterwards.”
”If you drive a lorry long distances every night, or if you are a pilot for an airline, then you may not want to take the risk.”
As far as I was concerned, I wanted to know at what point I would be meeting my eye surgeon. Is my eye surgeon going to pay individual attention to the status of my eyes? And what and how he was going to do?
And of course, I needed to see that his clinic was filled with patients. Having said that, I also don’t want to be in a cattle herd arrangement, where everyone is lining up like stupid cows.
So, the important thing to remember is to check out the eye surgeons who perform Lasik Eye Surgery here in Mexicali. From what I have heard, Dr. Trejo leads the pack along with Dr. Fernando Aguilera.
Dr. Aquilera charges a minimum of 14,000 pesos (about $1,200) for doing both eyes. If there are complications, the charge may be higher.
Take your pick!

That’s some good information. Here in Visalia, CA, I’ve seen advertisements for the Lasik that run for about $1600 per eye. I’ve always wondered how much cheaper it would be to go to Mexicali or Tijuana to get it done. My glasses are not big compared to yours so I think I’ll stay with with what I have for the time been. Though it would be nice to wake up in the morning and not realize how dirty my glasses are from the previous day.
